Explicit
id
fields are preferred for routes\nthat app code links to, because fallback ids change when paths change.
\n

route(\"/products/:id\", () => import(\"./routes/products/[id].tsx\"), {\n  id: \"product\",\n  render: \"ssr\",\n});\n

\n
Any route without an explicit
id
— manifest apps included, not just\npages-router apps — gets a fallback id derived from the route path (
/
→\n
index
,
/blog/:slug
→
blog-slug
,
/*
→
splat
).
\n
Step 2: Generate route types and helpers
\n
Run:
\n

pracht typegen\n

\n
This writes:
\n
\n

src/pracht.d.ts
— module augmentation for route ids, params, loader data\ntypes, and API route request/response types (consumed by
apiFetch()
).
\n

src/pracht-routes.ts
— runtime
href()
helper backed by the same route map.
\n

src/pracht-capabilities.d.ts
— only when the app registers capabilities:\ninput/output types from the capability schemas, so
invokeCapability()
,\n
callCapability()
, and
<Form capability>
's
onCapabilityResult
infer\ntypes from the capability name.
\n
\n
Earlier versions wrote the declaration to
src/pracht-routes.d.ts
; typegen\nremoves that stale file automatically (TypeScript silently ignored it next to\nthe same-named
.ts
helper).
\n
Do not hand-edit generated files. If they are stale, update the route graph and\nrun typegen again — or rely on
pracht dev
, which refreshes them when route\nfiles are added, removed, or renamed and when the route manifest or an imported\ndefinition module changes. The dev banner prompts for the initial typegen run\nwhen
src/pracht.d.ts
does not exist. In CI, prefer:
\n

pracht typegen --check\n

\n
The check compares declarations, not bytes, so generated files reformatted by\nthe project's formatter still read as up to date and regenerating leaves them\nformatted. Do not add them to a formatter ignore list on that account.
\n
Step 3: Replace string navigation where it matters
\n
Components
\n

import { Link, useNavigate } from \"@pracht/core\";\n\nexport function ProductLink({ id }: { id: string }) {\n  const navigate = useNavigate();\n\n  return (\n    <>\n      <Link route=\"product\" params={{ id }} search={{ ref: \"home\" }}>\n        View product\n      </Link>\n      <button onClick={() => void navigate({ route: \"product\", params: { id } })}>\n        Open product\n      </button>\n    </>\n  );\n}\n

\n

<Link>
renders a normal
<a>
and the client router intercepts it like any\nsame-origin anchor. It also accepts navigation-behavior props:\n
prefetch=\"none\" | \"hover\" | \"intent\" | \"viewport\" | \"render\"
(per-link\nprefetch strategy, default
\"intent\"
),
preserveScroll
(keep the scroll\nposition), and
viewTransition
(animate the navigation with the View Transitions API\nwhere supported). Set
speculate={false}
on links that browser speculation\nrules must not prefetch or prerender. Because it is independent of the JS\n
prefetch
strategy, use both
speculate={false}
and
prefetch=\"none\"
for GET\nlinks with side effects. There is also an imperative\n
prefetch()
export and a
useNavigation()
hook for pending\nnavigation/submission state.
\n
Outside components
\n

import { href } from \"./pracht-routes\";\n\nconst productUrl = href(\"product\", {\n  params: { id: \"123\" },\n  search: { tab: \"details\" },\n});\n

\n
Use
href()
in loaders that return URLs, sitemap helpers, menu config, test\nfixtures, and other non-component code.
\n
Loader data
\n
After typegen,
useRouteData(routeId)
returns that route's loader data with\nno generic — route ids autocomplete and the type follows the route's loader\n(or its separate loader file from the manifest):
\n

import { useRouteData } from \"@pracht/core\";\n\nexport function Component() {\n  const data = useRouteData(\"product\");\n  return <h1>{data.product.name}</h1>;\n}\n

\n
Prefer this over
useRouteData<typeof loader>()
when typegen runs; keep the\ngeneric form for projects that do not generate route types. Routes without a\nloader type their data as
undefined
. The id must be the active route: a\nmismatch throws (with a descriptive message in dev), so a shell or island that\nneeds another route's data must receive it as props instead.
\n
Shell loaders register the same way:
useShellData(\"app\")
types the result\nfrom the
app
shell's
loader
for every shell a route renders under. It is\ntyped
| undefined
because the shell can render without its data (the SPA\nloading state), and naming a shell the active route does not use throws.
\n
Search params
\n
A route that reads its query string should export a
search
schema (any\nStandard Schema validator) instead of parsing
url.searchParams
by hand.\nTypegen then types
search
on
<Link>
,
navigate()
, and
href()
from the\nschema's input, and
useSearch(routeId)
returns its output:
\n

import { Link, useSearch, type LoaderArgs, type SearchArgs } from \"@pracht/core\";\nimport * as z from \"zod\";\n\nexport const search = z.object({\n  page: z.coerce.number().int().min(1).default(1),\n  q: z.string().optional(),\n});\n\nexport async function loader(args: LoaderArgs & SearchArgs<typeof search>) {\n  return listProducts(args.search); // { page: number; q?: string }\n}\n\nexport function Component() {\n  const { page, q } = useSearch(\"products\");\n  return <Link route=\"products\" search={{ page: page + 1, q }}>Next</Link>;\n}\n

\n
\n
Values arrive as strings (arrays for repeated keys): coerce with\n
z.coerce.*
, and give optional params defaults so the bare URL is valid. A\nkey that may repeat is a plain string when it appears once — accept both.
\n
A rejected query answers 400 and renders the route's
ErrorBoundary
with\n
error.issues
; client navigation does the same.
\n
SSG/ISG routes are prerendered with an empty query, so the schema must\naccept one; loaders there only ever see the defaults.
\n
Keep
useSearchParams()
for raw access; it is unchanged.
\n
\n
API routes
\n
After typegen,
apiFetch()
type-checks API calls end to end — paths,\nmethods, params, bodies and queries (for
defineApi()
routes), and response\ntypes:
\n

import { apiFetch } from \"@pracht/core\";\n\nconst item = await apiFetch(\"/api/items/:id\", { params: { id: \"42\" } });\n

\n
See https://pracht.resynapse.dev/docs/api-validation for
defineApi()
and validation error handling.\nTypegen discovers API route files without importing them, so it is safe for\nroute modules that initialize runtime-only services at module scope.
\n
Query and params values cross the wire as strings — write schemas that accept\nstring input (
z.coerce.number()
, not
z.number()
);
apiFetch()
rejects\nquery and params keys without a string representation at compile time when the\nschema exposes a concrete input type. Handlers that need a custom status keep\ntyped payloads with
json(value, { status })
.
\n
Step 4: Param and search rules
\n
Generated param types accept
RouteParamInput = string | number | boolean
\n(values are stringified into the path), so:
\n
\n

:id
requires
params: { id: RouteParamInput }
— a
string
is typical,\nbut
number
/
boolean
also typecheck.
\n

*
requires
params: { \"*\": RouteParamInput }
.
\n

:path*
requires
params: { path: RouteParamInput }
.
\n
Routes with no dynamic segments should omit
params
.
\n
Missing and extra params should fail at typecheck time.
\n

search
is typed by the route module's
search
schema input when it\nexports one: unknown keys and wrong value types fail, keys whose input\ncannot come from a string (
z.number()
) fail, and a required key makes\n
search
itself required. Routes without a schema accept
string
,\n
URLSearchParams
, or an object of primitive values/arrays.
\n
\n
Step 5: Verify
\n
Run at least:
\n

pracht typegen --check\npnpm typecheck\npracht verify --json\n

\n
If navigation changed, add or update Playwright coverage for both the rendered\nanchor
href
and client-side navigation without a full page reload.
\n
Rules
\n
\n
Always start from
pracht inspect routes --json
or
pracht typegen
; do not\ninfer the full route map from files by hand.
\n
Prefer adding explicit ids before converting links for important routes.
\n
Never edit
src/pracht.d.ts
or
src/pracht-routes.ts
manually.
\n
Keep plain
<a href=\"...\">
where a URL is genuinely external, opaque, or\nuser-provided.
\n
After adding/removing/renaming routes, run
pracht typegen
and include the\ngenerated file changes in the same commit.
\n
\n
$ARGUMENTS
\n","files":[{"path":"SKILL.md","sizeBytes":9281,"isText":true}],"reviewScore":null,"reviewSummary":null,"trust":{"provenance":"trusted-source-unreviewed","notice":"Community-authored content, reproduced verbatim and not vetted as instructions.
