Ask when\nsomething is ambiguous (render mode, shell assignment). Keep generated code\nminimal — only the exports they actually need — and finish by summarizing what\nwas created and how it was wired.
\n
Always try the CLI first
\n

pracht generate route --path /dashboard --render ssr\npracht generate shell --name app\npracht generate middleware --name auth\npracht generate api --path /health --methods GET,POST\n

\n
If the CLI can express the request, do not reimplement the scaffold by hand.\n
pracht generate route
covers this flag matrix:
\n
\n
\n
\n
Flag
\n
Meaning
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n

--path
(required)
\n
Route path, e.g.
/dashboard
or
/blog/:slug

\n
\n
\n

--render

\n

ssr
(default),
spa
,
ssg
, or
isg

\n
\n
\n

--shell

\n
Registered shell name (manifest apps only)
\n
\n
\n

--middleware

\n
Registered middleware names, comma-separated (manifest apps only)
\n
\n
\n

--loader

\n
Include a
loader
export
\n
\n
\n

--error-boundary

\n
Include an
ErrorBoundary
export
\n
\n
\n

--static-paths

\n
Include
getStaticPaths
(automatic for dynamic
ssg
/
isg
paths)
\n
\n
\n

--title

\n
Page title for the
head()
export
\n
\n
\n

--revalidate

\n
ISG window in seconds (
isg
only, default 3600)
\n
\n
\n

--json

\n
Machine-readable output
\n
\n
\n
\n

generate shell
and
generate middleware
take
--name
;
generate shell --loader
adds a shell
loader
export read in the shell with
useShellData()
\n(layout-level data such as the signed-in user).
generate api
takes\n
--path
and
--methods
. All subcommands accept
--json
— use it when another\nagent or tool consumes the output. When the pracht MCP server is registered\n(
pracht dev-mcp
), call the
generate_route
/
generate_shell
/
generate_middleware
/\n
generate_api
MCP tools instead of Bash: same behavior, structured results.
\n
\n

--shell
/
--middleware
names must already be registered or the CLI errors.\nGenerate the shell or middleware first, then the route referencing it.
\n
Pages-router apps have one middleware seam:
pracht generate middleware --name _middleware
scaffolds the root
src/pages/_middleware.ts
, which runs\non every page route (API routes are not wrapped). Other names error in pages\nmode, pure static exports cannot use request middleware, and
generate shell
\nstays manifest-only — pages apps add an
_app.tsx
to the directory they want\nit to wrap (
src/pages/blog/_app.tsx
registers
pages:blog
).
\n

generate capability
works in both modes. Manifest apps get a
capabilities
\nregistry entry; pages apps auto-discover
src/capabilities/
, so the module\ndeclares its own
name
and no manifest is written. Pages
agents
and\n
constraints
are named exports in
src/pages/_app.config.ts
.
\n

generate route
also emits a Playwright smoke test in
e2e/
when the app\nhas a Playwright setup (
playwright.config.*
or an
e2e/
directory);\n
--no-test
skips it,
--test
forces it. The test imports\n
@playwright/test
— if that dependency is missing, follow the generator's\ninstall note before typechecking. Keep the test: it is the output-level proof\nthe route works.
\n
The generators wire the manifest themselves.
generate route
inserts the\n
route(...)
call into
src/routes.ts
(adding
route
/
timeRevalidate
\nimports as needed) and
generate shell
/
generate middleware
upsert their\nregistry entries. Do not re-edit the manifest after a successful run.
\n
\n
Project conventions
\n
\n
\n
\n
Kind
\n
Directory
\n
Key exports
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
Route
\n

src/routes/

\n

loader
,
head
,
Component
,
ErrorBoundary
,
getStaticPaths
,
search

\n
\n
\n
Shell
\n

src/shells/

\n

Shell
,
loader
(read with
useShellData()
),
head
,
headers
,
Loading
,
ErrorBoundary

\n
\n
\n
Middleware
\n

src/middleware/

\n

middleware

\n
\n
\n
API route
\n

src/api/

\n
Named method handlers (
GET
,
POST
,
PUT
,
PATCH
,
DELETE
) or one default dispatcher
\n
\n
\n
\n
Render modes:
\"ssr\"
(default),
\"ssg\"
(static at build),
\"isg\"
\n(incremental static,
revalidate: timeRevalidate(seconds)
— import\n
timeRevalidate
from
@pracht/core
),
\"spa\"
(client-only). Use Preact\nidioms:
class
not
className
, functional components,
import type
for\ntype-only imports.
\n
Before and after scaffolding:
\n
\n
Read
pracht inspect routes --json
/
pracht inspect api --json
to confirm\ncurrent wiring when the existing graph matters.
pracht inspect
needs the\npracht plugin in the vite config.
\n
If
src/routes.ts
declares
constraints:
, respect them — e.g. put new\n
/app/**
routes behind the required middleware. Never delete or weaken a\nconstraint to make
pracht verify
pass; that is a policy change only the\nuser can approve.
\n
Run
pracht typegen
after adding or renaming routes in a typed-routes app\n(
src/pracht-routes.ts
/
.d.ts
), and include the generated files.
\n
Run
pracht plan --write
if the app commits
.pracht/app-graph.json
—\n
pracht verify
fails on a stale snapshot.
\n
Finish with
pracht verify
.
\n
\n
Manual fallback
\n
Only for shapes the CLI cannot express. Read the existing
src/routes.ts
first\nto pick up current shells, middleware, and structure.
\n
Route —
head()
plus
Component
; add
loader
only when the route needs\nserver data (the CLI omits it unless
--loader
is passed),
ErrorBoundary
\nonly if requested, and
getStaticPaths
only for SSG/ISG routes with dynamic\nsegments:
\n

import type { LoaderArgs, RouteComponentProps } from \"@pracht/core\";\n\nexport async function loader(_args: LoaderArgs) {\n return {/* loader data */};\n}\n\nexport function head() {\n return { title: \"Page Title\" };\n}\n\nexport function Component({ data }: RouteComponentProps<typeof loader>) {\n return <section>{/* route UI */}</section>;\n}\n

\n
Shell —
Shell({ children }: ShellProps)
rendering
{children}
, plus an\noptional
head()
. Never render
<html>
,
<head>
, or
<body>
.
\n
Middleware — wrap-around via
next()
:
\n

import { redirect, type MiddlewareFn } from \"@pracht/core\";\n\nexport const middleware: MiddlewareFn = async ({ context, request }, next) => {\n // `return next()` continues; returning any Response short-circuits, e.g.\n // `redirect(\"/path\", { request })`. Wrap `await next()` in try/catch/finally\n // for tracing.\n return next();\n};\n

\n
API route — one export per method the user needs (or a default export only\nwhen they want to branch on
request.method
manually), parsing bodies with\n
request.json()
/
request.formData()
and always returning a
Response
:
\n

import type { ApiRouteArgs } from \"@pracht/core\";\n\nexport function GET({ params, url }: ApiRouteArgs) {\n return Response.json({/* response data */});\n}\n

\n
Dynamic segments use bracket filenames:
[id].ts
,
[...slug].ts
. API routes\nare auto-discovered — no manifest entry.
\n
For live server→client updates, use Server-Sent Events:\n
createEventStream(request, { keepAlive: 15 })
from
@pracht/core/server
\nreturns
{ response, send, close }
— return
response
, push with\n
send({ data, event?, id? })
, and stop producing when
send()
returns
false
\n(client disconnected). Consume with
useEventSource(url, { json: true })
from\n
@pracht/core
. Works on every adapter. For WebSockets use\n
isUpgradeRequest(request)
plus the per-adapter recipes in https://pracht.resynapse.dev/docs/adapters\n(Cloudflare: API route + Durable Object; Node:\n
nodeAdapter({ configureServerFrom })
; Vercel: unsupported — use SSE).
\n
Manifest wiring, only for hand-created files:
\n
\n
Route — a
route(\"/path\", () => import(\"./routes/file.tsx\"), { id: \"name\", render: \"ssr\" })
call in the right group or at the top level.
\n
Shell —
shellName: () => import(\"./shells/file.tsx\")
in the
shells
record.
\n
Middleware —
mwName: () => import(\"./middleware/file.ts\")
in the\n
middleware
record.
\n
\n
Plain
\"./routes/file.tsx\"
strings work in place of the import functions.
\n
$ARGUMENTS
\n","files":[{"path":"SKILL.md","sizeBytes":9225,"isText":true}],"reviewScore":null,"reviewSummary":null,"trust":{"provenance":"trusted-source-unreviewed","notice":"Community-authored content, reproduced verbatim and not vetted as instructions.
