Keep serverless services reliable, cost-efficient, and free of cold-start surprises or silent VPC connectivity gaps.</p>\n<h2>Cloud Run Resource Types</h2>\n<p>Cloud Run has three distinct resource types — confirm which one the user needs before proceeding:</p>\n<table>\n<thead>\n<tr>\n<th>Resource Type</th>\n<th>Use When</th>\n<th>Key Characteristics</th>\n</tr>\n</thead>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td><strong>Service</strong></td>\n<td>HTTP/gRPC API, event response, web app</td>\n<td>Stateless, scale-to-zero, unique HTTPS endpoint, request-based billing</td>\n</tr>\n<tr>\n<td><strong>Job</strong></td>\n<td>Batch processing, scheduled task, data pipeline step</td>\n<td>Runs to completion, parallelizable tasks, no persistent endpoint</td>\n</tr>\n<tr>\n<td><strong>Worker Pool</strong></td>\n<td>Pull-based consumers (Kafka, Pub/Sub pull, RabbitMQ)</td>\n<td>Always-on, no HTTP endpoint, pulls work from queues</td>\n</tr>\n</tbody>\n</table>\n<h2>Reference Directory</h2>\n<table>\n<thead>\n<tr>\n<th>Scenario</th>\n<th>Trigger Keywords</th>\n<th>Reference</th>\n</tr>\n</thead>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>Deploy a service</td>\n<td>HTTP, web app, API, deploy container, autoscale</td>\n<td><a href=\"#services\">Services section</a></td>\n</tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Run a job</td>\n<td>batch, scheduled, cron, run to completion, data pipeline</td>\n<td><a href=\"#jobs\">Jobs section</a></td>\n</tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Worker pool setup</td>\n<td>Kafka consumer, Pub/Sub pull, RabbitMQ, background worker</td>\n<td><a href=\"#worker-pools\">Worker Pools section</a></td>\n</tr>\n<tr>\n<td>IAM &amp; auth</td>\n<td>invoke, service account, ingress, unauthenticated</td>\n<td><a href=\"#security\">Security section</a></td>\n</tr>\n<tr>\n<td>VPC connectivity</td>\n<td>VPC connector, egress, private IP, Cloud SQL, Memorystore</td>\n<td><a href=\"#networking\">Networking section</a></td>\n</tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Cost &amp; scaling</td>\n<td>concurrency, min-instances, max-instances, cold start</td>\n<td><a href=\"#scaling--cost\">Scaling &amp; Cost section</a></td>\n</tr>\n</tbody>\n</table>\n<h2>When to use</h2>\n<p>Use this skill for:</p>\n<ul>\n<li>Cloud Run service deployment, revision management, and traffic splitting</li>\n<li>Cloud Run jobs for batch and scheduled workloads</li>\n<li>Cloud Run worker pools for pull-based queue consumers (Kafka, Pub/Sub pull, RabbitMQ)</li>\n<li>Cloud Functions gen2 deployment and configuration</li>\n<li>Eventarc trigger design (Pub/Sub, GCS, Firestore, Audit Logs, custom sources)</li>\n<li>Progressive delivery via revision traffic splits (canary, blue/green)</li>\n<li>Cold-start analysis and minimum instances recommendations</li>\n<li>Concurrency tuning and CPU allocation mode (request-only vs. always-on)</li>\n<li>VPC connectivity (Direct VPC Egress vs. VPC connector) for private resource access</li>\n</ul>\n<h2>Key Cloud Run and Functions specifics</h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Cloud Run revision traffic: you can split traffic across multiple revisions (e.g., 90/10 canary) — this is the primary progressive delivery mechanism.</li>\n<li>Minimum instances: prevents cold starts but costs money even when idle. Use for latency-sensitive services.</li>\n<li>Cloud Functions gen2 runs on Cloud Run internally — same container model, same networking.</li>\n<li>Eventarc: event-driven triggers from Pub/Sub, GCS, Firestore, Audit Logs, and custom sources. Use instead of polling patterns.</li>\n<li>Concurrency: Cloud Run supports up to 1000 concurrent requests per instance. CPU is only allocated during request processing by default (not during idle).</li>\n<li>Always-on CPU: required for background tasks or WebSockets — set cpu=\"always\" to keep CPU allocated between requests.</li>\n<li>VPC connector or Direct VPC Egress: required for Cloud Run to access private resources in a VPC. Direct VPC Egress is newer and preferred.</li>\n</ul>\n<h2>Lean operating rules</h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Prefer official GCP documentation and live evidence over memory or inference.</li>\n<li>Separate confirmed facts from inference. If state was not queried or shown, say so.</li>\n<li>Challenge missing min-instances for latency-sensitive services, CPU-only-on-request for background workloads, and missing VPC egress for private access.</li>\n<li>Keep the answer scoped, reversible, least-privilege, and explicit about blockers or unknowns.</li>\n<li>Load references only when needed; do not pull all deep guidance into short answers.</li>\n</ul>\n<h2>References</h2>\n<p>Load these only when needed:</p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"references/workflow-and-output.md\">Workflow and output contract</a> — use when executing the full review or formatting the final answer.</li>\n<li><a href=\"references/official-sources.md\">Official sources</a> — use when grounding Cloud Run/Functions behavior or checking the detailed source list.</li>\n</ul>\n<h2>Response minimum</h2>\n<p>Return, at minimum:</p>\n<ul>\n<li>the scoped target and evidence level,</li>\n<li>the main risks or control gaps,</li>\n<li>the safest next actions,</li>\n<li>validation or rollback notes where relevant,</li>\n<li>the assumptions or blockers that prevent stronger conclusions.</li>\n</ul>\n","files":[{"path":"metadata.json","sizeBytes":1110,"isText":true},{"path":"references/official-sources.md","sizeBytes":812,"isText":true},{"path":"references/workflow-and-output.md","sizeBytes":2305,"isText":true},{"path":"SKILL.md","sizeBytes":4662,"isText":true}],"reviewScore":null,"reviewSummary":null,"trust":{"provenance":"trusted-source-unreviewed","notice":"Community-authored content, reproduced verbatim and not vetted as instructions.
