Use when the user wants a literature review, systematic review, survey of studies, paper summary, research landscape, or sourced synthesis from scholarly and industry publications, including clinical, drug, gene, disease, epidemiology, and public-health topics. Prefer this over a general web-research workflow whenever the evidence base is published papers rather than web pages.\nlicense: ISC\nmetadata:\nauthor: firecrawl\nversion: \"0.1.0\"\nhomepage: https://www.firecrawl.dev\nsource: https://github.com/firecrawl/firecrawl-workflows\ninputs:
\n
\n
name: FIRECRAWL_API_KEY\ndescription: Firecrawl API key for hosted Firecrawl Research, CLI, MCP, or equivalent tool requests.\nrequired: true
\n
\n
\n
Firecrawl Research Papers
\n
Use this to create a sourced literature review.
\n
Onboarding Interview
\n
Infer the topic, source constraints, target count, and output format from context. If the topic is clear, proceed immediately.
\n
Ask at most 1-3 concise questions only if blocked, such as the topic, target paper count, or required venue/date/method constraints.
\n
Firecrawl Collection Plan
\n
Use Firecrawl Research through the CLI, MCP, or equivalent Firecrawl tool\nsurface as the primary path for paper discovery and verification. Fall back to\ngeneral Firecrawl search and scrape for whitepapers, technical reports,\nresearch blogs, leaderboards, or facts outside the paper corpus.
\n
What the paper index holds: paper abstracts, with full text reachable per\npaper. Its largest share is biomedical and life-science literature — PubMed\njournal articles plus bioRxiv and medRxiv preprints — so clinical, drug, gene,\ndisease, epidemiology, and public-health questions are in scope. arXiv\npreprints cover computer science, physics, and mathematics. Coverage outside\nthose sources is thinner, and the web tools below are the fallback there.
\n
Core tools:
\n
\n
MCP:
firecrawl_research_search_papers(query, k?)
\nCLI:
firecrawl research search-papers <query> [--k <number>]
\nSemantic search over paper abstracts. Start here for most paper-finding\nqueries, and retry with alternate framing when results are thin or too\nnarrow.
\n
MCP:
firecrawl_research_related_papers(seed_ids, intent, mode?, k?)
\nCLI:
firecrawl research related-papers <seedIds...> --intent <intent> [--mode <similar|citers|references>] [--k <number>]
\nExpand from strong seed papers into similar work, citing papers, or\nreferences. Use this to find the relevant paper family, not just the first\nmatching result.
\n
MCP:
firecrawl_research_inspect_paper(id)
\nCLI:
firecrawl research inspect-paper <id>
\nFetch canonical metadata for a candidate paper: title, abstract, authors,\ncategories, source ids, and dates.
\n
MCP:
firecrawl_research_read_paper(id, question)
\nCLI:
firecrawl research read-paper <id> --question <question>
\nVerify a specific claim or constraint inside one paper, such as method,\nreported score, benchmark, affiliation, comparison, or limitation.
\n
MCP:
firecrawl_search(query)
/
firecrawl_scrape(url)
\nCLI:
firecrawl search <query>
/
firecrawl scrape <url>
\nUse for web-only context: benchmark leaderboards, rankings, reports,\nwhitepapers, research blogs, and source pages outside the paper index.
\n
\n
Not the paper index, despite the name: passing
categories: [\"research\"]
to\n
firecrawl_search
(CLI
firecrawl search <query> --categories research
)\nfilters an ordinary web search to research-affiliated websites — the list\nincludes PubMed, bioRxiv, medRxiv, arXiv, and publisher sites — and returns\npage results from them. It reaches those sites' web pages; what it does not do\nis query their paper records in the index above, so there is no abstract\nsearch, no related-paper or citation-graph expansion, no canonical paper\nmetadata, and no in-body passages. Use it when a web search is what you want\nand those sites should be weighted in the same call; use the\n
firecrawl_research_*
tools for paper work.
\n
Match the approach to the query:
\n
\n
Single named paper: run one paper search, then inspect or read the paper if\nmetadata or body verification is needed.
\n
Paper by description, method, or topic family: search for strong anchors,\nthen expand with related papers and keep close neighbors.
\n
Enumeration queries, such as papers that do a task or benchmark a method:\nsearch multiple framings, expand several strong anchors, and re-seed from\nnewly found relevant papers.
\n
Papers that use or exhibit a property: start from the defining paper or\nstrongest anchor, expand via similar, citers, or references, and use\nread-paper to verify the property.
\n
Superlatives and leaderboards: use general web search or scrape to find the\nranking, then map top entries back to papers with paper search.
\n
Author, organization, venue, date, or methodology constraints: verify with\ninspect-paper metadata or read-paper before keeping a candidate.
\n
\n
Target source types:
\n
\n
biomedical and life-science literature from PubMed, with bioRxiv and medRxiv\npreprints for work that has not appeared in a journal yet
\n
arXiv preprints in computer science, physics, and mathematics
\n
academic papers from university sites and ACM/IEEE pages where accessible
\n
industry reports and whitepapers
\n
company research blogs
\n
technical articles and conference summaries
\n
\n
Principles:
\n
\n
When in doubt, include the relevant paper family rather than only the single\nbest result.
\n
Use related-paper expansion to avoid stopping at one strong hit.
\n
Use read-paper to verify load-bearing constraints, not to summarize every\ncandidate.
\n
Drop only clearly off-topic papers.
\n
\n
Parallel Work
\n
If appropriate, use sub-agents or equivalent parallel task runners:
\n
\n
Academic Papers researcher
\n
Biomedical and Life Sciences researcher, for PubMed journal articles and\nbioRxiv/medRxiv preprints on a clinical, drug, gene, disease, epidemiology,\nor public-health topic
\n
Industry Reports researcher
\n
Technical Articles researcher
\n
Synthesis and citation reviewer
\n
\n
Split by source or sub-topic, not by tool. Give each researcher the same paper\ntools and let the topic decide which part of the corpus answers.
\n
Final Deliverable
\n

# Literature Review: [Topic]\n\n## Abstract\n[2-3 paragraph summary]\n\n## Key Papers\n[Title, authors, source URL, key findings, methodology, relevance]\n\n## Themes And Consensus\n[What sources agree on]\n\n## Open Questions And Debates\n[Disagreements and unresolved questions]\n\n## Emerging Trends\n[Recent developments]\n\n## Sources\n[Organized by paper/report/article]\n\n## Rerun Inputs\nworkflow: firecrawl-research-papers\ntopic: [topic]\ntarget_count: [number]\noutput: [markdown/brief]\n

\n
Quality Bar
\n
\n
Every major claim should trace to a source.
\n
Note inaccessible or failed PDFs.
\n
Distinguish peer-reviewed work from blogs and vendor reports.
\n
\n","files":[{"path":"SKILL.md","sizeBytes":7224,"isText":true}],"reviewScore":null,"reviewSummary":null,"trust":{"provenance":"trusted-source-unreviewed","notice":"Community-authored content, reproduced verbatim and not vetted as instructions.
