Use whenever asked to write a blog post, cover a news story about the agent tooling ecosystem, announce a feature rollout, publish the next post from the queue, or when the weekly blog automation runs. Covers the full pipeline - finding the story, verifying it against primary sources, writing the markdown post, regenerating the site, and shipping the PR.
\n
Writing a blog post
\n
The blog lives at
https://byronxlg.com/skillfold/blog/
, deployed by\n
.github/workflows/docs.yml
on merge to main.
\n
You write exactly one file. A post is a markdown file in\n
site/blog/posts/
with YAML frontmatter.
scripts/build-blog.ts
derives\neverything else - the blog index, the post page, the RSS feed, the sitemap,\nand the newest-three list on the landing page. Never hand-edit generated\noutput; it is gitignored and rebuilt on every deploy.
\n
A post touches these files and no others:
\n
\n
\n
\n
File
\n
Change
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n

site/blog/posts/<date>-<n>-<slug>.md

\n
the new post (create)
\n
\n
\n

site/index.html

\n
only the generated block, and only via
npm run build:blog

\n
\n
\n

docs/blog-todo.md

\n
record it under Shipped; check off a Queue item if you used one
\n
\n
\n
\n
If you are editing
site/blog/index.html
,
site/feed.xml
,\n
site/sitemap.xml
, or
site/robots.txt
, stop: those are build products.
\n
The editorial line
\n
This is not a product blog. A blog that explains skillfold over and over\nis worth nothing to anyone who has not already adopted it, and it is the\ndefault failure mode of dev-tool blogs. Do not write another one.
\n
The blog covers the problem space skillfold lives in: agent\nconfiguration, skill distribution, reproducibility, and the supply chain\nunderneath all of it. That space now generates real news every week. Write\nabout the news. skillfold earns a mention when it genuinely bears on the\nstory, and stays out of the post when it does not.
\n
Three post types, in descending order of how often you should write them:
\n
\n
\n
\n
Type
\n
Tag
\n
What it is
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
Current events
\n

ecosystem

\n
A real story in the space, and what it means. The default.
\n
\n
\n
Evergreen
\n

concepts
,
feature
,
workflow

\n
A durable problem, capability, or task explained. The quiet-week fallback.
\n
\n
\n
Rollout
\n

release

\n
A large feature shipping. Only when one actually ships.
\n
\n
\n
\n
1. Find the story
\n
Scan the beats listed in
docs/blog-todo.md
for the week's strongest story.\nThe recurring ones:
\n
\n
The agent skills standard itself - spec changes, new adopting tools,\n
agentskills.io
,
AGENTS.md
conventions.
\n
Claude Code and Codex releases. Read the actual changelog, not coverage\nof it.
\n
Skill registries and marketplaces - growth, policy changes, incidents.
\n
Security research on skills, MCP, and agent supply chains. This beat has\nbeen the most productive: real papers, real vendor disclosures, real\nnumbers.
\n
MCP spec developments.
\n
Package-manager news that rhymes with the problem: lockfile format\nchanges, provenance and trusted publishing, SBOM and SLSA work.
\n
Other tools solving config or skill management, including ones that\ncompete with skillfold. Cover them fairly or not at all.
\n
\n
A story is worth a post when it is verifiable from primary sources and\ngenuinely connected to reproducibility, distribution, or trust in agent\nconfig. Both conditions, not either.
\n
Do not force a connection. If the honest read is \"interesting, but it has\nnothing to do with what we know about\", write the evergreen fallback\ninstead. A forced tie-in is more damaging than a quiet week, because it\ntells the reader the blog is an ad.
\n
Check the Shipped list in
docs/blog-todo.md
first. Do not re-cover a story\nalready written up unless the picture materially changed, and then say what\nchanged and link the earlier post.
\n
2. Verify everything
\n
Your knowledge cutoff is behind the news. Fetch, do not recall.
\n
Source quality is the whole game. The agent-tooling space is saturated\nwith SEO content farms that restate each other, and their numbers drift with\nevery retelling. Rules:
\n
\n
A claim needs a primary source: the vendor's own release notes or\nchangelog, the spec commit or PR, the security vendor's own writeup, the\npaper itself, the registry's own data. Aggregator blogs and listicles are\nnot sources, no matter how confident they sound.
\n
Every statistic gets its attribution and date in the prose: \"Snyk's\nFebruary 2026 audit of 3,984 skills found 36.82% had at least one security\nflaw\", not \"over a third of skills are insecure\".
\n
If a number appears only in content-farm summaries and you cannot reach\nthe original, cut the number or skip the story.
\n
Anything contested needs two independent sources.
\n
Link the primary source inline so a reader can check you.
\n
\n
Two failure modes have already shipped and both are subtle. Check for them\nexplicitly before you commit:
\n
\n
Quotation marks mean verbatim. If text sits inside quotes it must match\nthe source character for character. A tighter paraphrase is fine as your own\nwords, outside quotes. One post rendered \"can't be scoped safely without\nsessions\" as \"unsafe without sessions\" inside quotation marks: same meaning,\nnot the same sentence, and the quote marks made it a misattribution.
\n
A number measures exactly one thing. The words around a statistic must\ndescribe what was actually counted. One post reported a 99.55% figure for\n\"frontmatter with a name and description\" when the source measured\nfrontmatter presence at 99.55%, with name and description counted\nseparately at 99.49% and 99.52%. Re-read each figure against the sentence\nin the source that produced it, not against your summary of it.
\n
\n
Claims about skillfold's own behavior are verified differently: never from\nmemory, always from the repo.
\n
\n
Read the implementation.
src/resolve.ts
for pin reuse and frozen mode,\n
src/install.ts
for managed-directory safety and pruning,\n
src/compose.ts
for composition,
src/targets.ts
and
src/agentsmd.ts
\nfor targets and the AGENTS.md block,
src/lock.ts
for the lockfile shape.
\n
Read the reference docs that pin the contract:
docs/manifest.md
,\n
docs/cli.md
,
docs/getting-started.md
,
docs/publishing.md
. If a post\nand the docs disagree, one of them is a bug - resolve it, do not paper\nover it.
\n
Run the command. Any console output you quote comes from an actual run\n(
npx tsx src/cli.ts <command>
), never from memory. Use a scratch\ndirectory when the command writes files.
\n
\n
If a claim cannot be verified, cut it.
\n
3. Write the post
\n
Filename:
site/blog/posts/YYYY-MM-DD-N-<slug>.md
, where
YYYY-MM-DD
is\ntoday's real date and
N
orders posts that share a date. A higher
N
was\npublished later and sits higher on the page, so take the next number above\nthe highest already used for that date (
1
if the date is new). Neither the\ndate nor the number appears in the URL, so renumbering never breaks a\npermalink.
\n

---\ntitle: What the reader is trying to understand\ndescription: 140-160 characters stating what the post explains and what the reader leaves with.\ndate: 2026-07-25\ntags: [ecosystem]\n---\n

\n
\n

title
,
description
, and
date
are required; the build fails without them.
\n

description
is 140-160 characters.
\n
Quote any value containing
\": \"
. YAML reads an unquoted colon-space as\na nested mapping and the build fails. Either quote it\n(
description: \"Skills: a primer\"
) or rewrite the sentence without the\ncolon. This is the single most common way a post fails to build.
\n

date
must be
YYYY-MM-DD
and must be today's real date.
\n

tags
: exactly one of
ecosystem
(a current story),
concepts
(how to\nthink about a problem),
feature
(how a capability works),
workflow
(a\ntask end to end), or
release
(a rollout).
\n

slug
is derived from the filename. Set it explicitly only to keep a URL\nstable when renaming.
\n

draft: true
keeps a post out of the build entirely.
\n
\n
Content rules:
\n
\n
800-1400 words. Long enough to teach the topic, short enough that every\nsection pulls weight.
\n
Lead with the story or the reader's problem. Never lead with skillfold\n(the one exception is a
release
post, which is about skillfold by\ndefinition).
\n
The title names what happened or what the reader wants to know. Not a\nfeature name, not a pun.
\n
Every post states a limitation. For an
ecosystem
post that means\nsaying plainly what skillfold does not fix about the story. This is the\nsingle biggest thing separating a post developers trust from one they\nbounce off, and it is the first thing to check when reviewing your own\ndraft.
\n
No predictions about what will happen next. No dunking on competing\ntools. No security FUD - do not describe a threat in order to sell a\nlockfile. Report what was found, cite who found it, say what it does and\ndoes not imply.
\n
Voice: plain, precise, technical. No emojis. No em dashes - use hyphens or\nrestructure. No exclamation marks. Do not use \"simply\", \"just\", \"easy\",\nor \"powerful\".
\n

##
for sections,
###
sparingly. The generator gives every heading an id.
\n
Fenced code blocks with a language tag (
yaml,
sh, ```console). Keep\nlines under about 76 characters or they force a horizontal scrollbar at the\narticle measure. Use
console
only for real output from a real run.
\n
Markdown tables are supported and are the right shape for comparisons.
\n
Link to the docs rather than restating a reference table in full.
\n
\n
Rollout posts
\n
Write one when a feature is large enough to change how someone uses the tool:\na new source kind, a new install target, a breaking change, a major version.\nNot for patch releases or bug fixes - those belong in
CHANGELOG.md
.
\n
A rollout post must cover: the problem the feature solves, what it looks like\nin the manifest, the migration path for existing users, what it explicitly\ndoes not do, and a link to the reference docs. Tag it
release
.
\n
4. Build and verify
\n

npm run build:blog\n

\n
This regenerates the post page, blog index, feed, sitemap, and the landing\npage block. Then:
\n
\n

npm run typecheck
and
npm test
still pass.
\n
Serve and click through:
npx http-server -p 8899 -s site
, then check\n
/blog/
, the new post, and the landing
#blog
section. Confirm the post\nrenders, prev/next point at real posts, and the landing block lists the new\npost first. Kill the server when done.
\n
Grep the new slug across
site/
- it must appear in the generated post\npath, the blog index, the feed, the sitemap, and the landing block.
\n
Re-read the draft against two questions: is there a claim here I did not\nactually verify, and does this post state its limitation? Fix both before\nshipping.
\n
\n

site/index.html
is committed, so if
build:blog
rewrote its generated\nblock (it says so in its output), commit that change with the post.
\n
5. Update the queue
\n
In
docs/blog-todo.md
, add a line under Shipped. An
ecosystem
post's line\nmust name the story, not just the title, so the repeat check can match it:
\n

- [x] <title> (story: <what happened>, <date>) - 2026-07-25, site/blog/posts/<file>.md\n

\n
If you used a Queue topic, check it off too. Shipped is how the next run\navoids re-covering ground, so every published post lands there.
\n
6. Ship
\n
Branch
blog/<slug>
, commit as
Blog: <title>
, push, and open a PR\ndescribing the story and why it is worth covering.
\n
Open the PR in the same breath as the push. A pushed branch with no PR is\ninvisible: nothing reviews it, nothing deploys it, and the next run will not\nfind it. The first unattended run did exactly this, pushing a finished post and\nthen stopping before
gh pr create
. Push and open the PR as one step, then do\nany remaining polish on the PR.
\n
The PR is the audit trail and revert point, not a review gate. If the diff is\nonly the post, the landing page's generated block, and
docs/blog-todo.md
,\nsquash-merge it yourself:
\n

gh pr merge --squash --delete-branch\n

\n
If the diff touches anything else - the workflow, this skill,
scripts/
,\n
src/
, the manifest - leave the PR open for review and say why in a comment.\nThat boundary is the whole safety model for unattended runs; do not widen it.
\n
When merging from inside a GitHub Actions run, dispatch the deploy afterwards:
\n

gh workflow run docs.yml\n

\n
Pushes made with
GITHUB_TOKEN
do not trigger other workflows on their own.\nA merge done interactively with a human's
gh
auth triggers the deploy\nautomatically and needs no dispatch.
\n","files":[{"path":"SKILL.md","sizeBytes":12595,"isText":true}],"reviewScore":null,"reviewSummary":null,"trust":{"provenance":"trusted-source-unreviewed","notice":"Community-authored content, reproduced verbatim and not vetted as instructions.
