The framework serializes loader\nreturn values to the client via
window.__PRACHT_STATE__
, so anything returned\nends up in the browser — including secrets you never meant to expose.
\n
Step 1: Enumerate routes
\n
MCP: when the pracht MCP server is registered (
pracht dev-mcp
), prefer its\n
inspect_routes
/
inspect_api
/
inspect_build
/
doctor
/
verify
tools over\nshelling out.
\n

pracht inspect routes --json\n

\n
Prerequisite:
pracht inspect
needs a vite config with the pracht plugin\nwired up.
\n
For every route entry, read
loaderFile ?? file
and inspect the
loader
\nexport there. Loaders may live in a separate data module wired via the\nmanifest (
RouteConfig.loader
); the inspect JSON surfaces that as\n
loaderFile
(null when the loader lives in the route module itself). Reading\nonly
file
misses every externalized loader.
\n
Shells can export a
loader
too. Read each distinct
shellFile
from the same\nJSON and audit its
loader
like a route's: its return value reaches the\nbrowser as
shellData
on every page under that shell.
\n
Step 2: Run the five checks
\n
For each
loader
(and
getStaticPaths
when present):
\n
2a. Serializability
\n
Skip this check for
hydration: \"islands\"
and
\"none\"
routes: they ship no\nloader data. Otherwise, check
vite.config.*
for\n
pracht({ client: { richData: true } })
first.
\n
Without
richData
(the default), loader data is
JSON.stringify
'd while the\ncomponent's types still promise the original. Flag returns that contain any of:
\n
\n
\n
\n
Construct
\n
Why it breaks
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n

Date
,
Map
,
Set
,
URL

\n
Not preserved by
JSON.stringify

\n
\n
\n
Class instances
\n
Lose prototype on the client
\n
\n
\n

Function
/ arrow values
\n
Stripped silently
\n
\n
\n

Promise
(bare)
\n
Becomes
{}
— wrap in
defer()

\n
\n
\n
Circular refs
\n
Throws at serialize time
\n
\n
\n

Buffer
/ typed arrays
\n
Becomes
{}
or numeric keys
\n
\n
\n

bigint

\n

JSON.stringify
throws
\n
\n
\n

undefined
in arrays/object
\n
Drops keys; arrays become
null

\n
\n
\n
\n
With
richData
,
Date
,
Map
,
Set
,
URL
,
RegExp
,
bigint
,
undefined
,\nand shared or circular references arrive intact: do not flag them. Flag\nfunctions, symbols, typed arrays, and class instances without
toJSON()
\n(
Error
included) instead: each fails the request with a 500 naming the path,\nin production too. A class instance with
toJSON()
arrives as its output, so\nits type lies.
\n
A bare promise in loader data is always a bug — it serializes to
{}
. The fix\nis
defer(promise)
, which marks the field as deferred and is read in the\ncomponent with
use()
inside a
<Suspense>
boundary. Flag a bare promise as an\n
error
and point at
defer()
; a
defer()
ed field is correct and must not be\nflagged.
\n
Two
defer()
rules worth checking while you are in the loader:
\n
\n
A deferred value must not redirect, throw
PrachtHttpError
, or set response\nstatus or headers — by the time it settles the response is already committed.\nAuth belongs in middleware or the awaited part of the loader.
\n

defer(await …)
defeats the point and throws at runtime. Flag it.
\n

defer()
must be returned from an enumerable data property, not hidden\nbehind a getter. An unresolved marker throws during serialization.
\n
\n
Recommend converting to
string
(ISO for dates), plain arrays, or plain objects\nbefore return, or turning on
client.richData
when an app returns many dates\nor maps.
\n
2b. Secret leaks
\n
Ownership note: deep secret scanning is owned by
/audit-secrets
and by\n
pracht verify
's env scan — keep this check brief and point the user there\nrather than triple-reporting the same findings. Here, only flag what falls\nout of reading the return value anyway:
\n
Grep the loader body and anything it returns for:
\n
\n

process.env.*
references that flow into the return value.
\n

context.env.*
(Cloudflare bindings) flowing into the return value.
\n
Variables named
*SECRET*
,
*TOKEN*
,
*KEY*
,
*PASSWORD*
,
*PRIVATE*
,\n
*API_KEY*
reaching the return.
\n
Spreads of full DB rows containing
password_hash
,
mfa_secret
, etc.
\n
\n
Loaders run server-side but the return value crosses the wire. Always\nproject to a smaller shape before returning.
\n
2c. Browser-only APIs at module top level or in loader
\n
Flag any of these accessed unconditionally inside
loader
or at the top level\nof a route module that is rendered SSR/SSG/ISG:
\n
\n

window
,
document
,
navigator
,
localStorage
,
sessionStorage
,\n
IntersectionObserver
,
matchMedia
,
requestAnimationFrame
.
\n
\n
These crash on the server. For SPA-only routes (
render: \"spa\"
) it's fine\ninside the component — but never inside
loader
.
\n
2d. AbortSignal plumbing
\n
For loaders that call
fetch
or any I/O:
\n
\n
The framework passes
signal
in
LoaderArgs
.
\n
Verify it is forwarded to outbound
fetch(url, { signal })
calls and to any\ndatabase client that accepts cancellation.
\n
A loader that ignores
signal
keeps work running after the client navigates\naway, and holds the response past
loaderTimeoutMs
. Where a driver cannot\ntake a signal, suggest
defineApp({ enforceLoaderTimeout: true })
so the\nresponse still answers when the budget runs out.
\n
\n
2e. Loader cache safety
\n
For routes with a positive
loaderCache
value, flag loader data whose freshness\nor visibility depends on cookies, authorization headers, sessions, user identity,\npermissions, or request-specific context. Route-state HTTP caching is
private
,\nso shared proxies cannot reuse it, but a stale response can still survive logout,\naccount switching, or permission changes in the same browser.
\n
Recommend
loaderCache: false
/
0
for personalized or authorization-sensitive\nloaders. Use a positive duration only when every field in the returned data can be\nsafely reused for that long. Do not confuse
loaderCache
with ISG
revalidate
or\nthe short-lived in-memory prefetch cache; they are independent policies.
\n
Step 3: Report
\n
Produce a markdown table:
\n
\n
\n
\n
Route
\n
File
\n
Severity
\n
Finding
\n
Suggested fix
\n
\n
\n
\n
Severities:
error
(secret leak, crash),
warn
(serialization risk, missing\nsignal),
info
(style nit).
\n
Rules
\n
\n
Use
pracht inspect routes --json
as the source of truth — do not glob\n
src/routes/**
and risk missing manifest wiring or catching orphan files.
\n
Read the actual loader source — do not infer from names.
\n
For each finding, point at the file and line.
\n
Do not auto-fix. Hand the user the report; let them choose.
\n
If the loader returns a typed shape from a DB ORM, recommend an explicit\n
select
or projection step rather than spreading the row.
\n
\n
$ARGUMENTS
\n","files":[{"path":"SKILL.md","sizeBytes":7295,"isText":true}],"reviewScore":null,"reviewSummary":null,"trust":{"provenance":"trusted-source-unreviewed","notice":"Community-authored content, reproduced verbatim and not vetted as instructions.
