The component renders a plain
<img>
— SSR-safe,\nzero hydration, works with
hydration: \"none\"
.
\n
Step 1: Choose the backend for the deployment target
\n
MCP: when the pracht MCP server is registered (
pracht dev-mcp
), prefer its\n
inspect_routes
/
inspect_build
/
doctor
/
verify
tools over shelling out.
\n

pracht inspect build --json # adapterTarget (requires a prior `pracht build`)\n

\n
\n
\n
\n
Target
\n
Loader
\n
Notes
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
Node
\n

defaultLoader
+ the built-in endpoint
\n
needs
sharp
; put a CDN in front
\n
\n
\n
Cloudflare
\n

cloudflareLoader

\n
Image Resizing must be enabled on the zone; sharp does not run on Workers
\n
\n
\n
Vercel
\n

vercelLoader

\n
needs an
images
section in the project config; Vercel only serves widths listed in
images.sizes

\n
\n
\n
Netlify
\n

netlifyLoader

\n
Image CDN; remote sources need
images.remote_images
in
netlify.toml
; no sharp endpoint
\n
\n
\n
Static host
\n

passthroughLoader

\n
no image service — srcset is omitted
\n
\n
\n
Any target, no runtime service
\n

?pracht&pracht-static
imports
\n
prebuilt WebP variants, no loader involved
\n
\n
\n
\n
Confirm the choice with
AskUserQuestion
when the app deploys to more than one\ntarget — a per-target
configureImage()
behind an env flag is the usual answer\n(
examples/basic
does exactly this).
\n
Step 2: Install
\n

pnpm add @pracht/image\npnpm add sharp # only for the built-in Node endpoint\npnpm add -D sharp # only for `?pracht` imports / static variants\n

\n
sharp stays an optional peer dependency; the vite plugin fails with an install\nhint when a
?pracht
import needs it, and the endpoint answers 500 with the\nsame hint at runtime.
\n
Step 3: Configure the loader once
\n
Put
configureImage()
where both the server and the browser evaluate it — the\ntop of
src/routes.ts
is the canonical spot:
\n

import { cloudflareLoader, configureImage } from \"@pracht/image\";\n\nconfigureImage({\n  loader: cloudflareLoader,\n  // deviceSizes: [640, 750, 828, 1080, 1200, 1920, 2048, 3840],\n  // imageSizes: [16, 32, 48, 64, 96, 128, 256, 384],\n  // quality: 75,\n});\n

\n

createDefaultLoader(\"/my/endpoint\")
builds a default-style loader for a custom\nendpoint path. Root-absolute endpoints pick up Vite's deploy
base
\nautomatically; provider loaders (
cloudflareLoader
,
vercelLoader
,
netlifyLoader
)\ndeliberately stay at the origin root.
\n
For Netlify, use
configureImage({ loader: import.meta.env.DEV ? passthroughLoader : netlifyLoader })
so
pracht dev
renders original images.\nImport both loaders from
@pracht/image
. For remote sources, merge the\nallowed URL patterns into the existing
netlify.toml
:
\n

[images]\nremote_images = ['https://images\\.example\\.com/.*']\n

\n
Local source files need no image-service configuration; Netlify negotiates\nthe output format and caches resized images. Skip the Node endpoint step.
\n
Step 4: Render images
\n

import { Image } from \"@pracht/image\";\n\n<Image\n  src=\"/banner.jpg\"\n  alt=\"Product banner\"\n  width={1200}\n  height={280}\n  sizes=\"(max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\"\n  priority\n/>;\n

\n
\n

alt
is required — use
alt=\"\"
for decorative images.
\n

width
/
height
are required unless
fill
; they reserve space and prevent\nlayout shift. Missing dimensions log a
console.error
in dev.
\n

sizes
(or
fill
) switches the srcset to
w
descriptors across\n
deviceSizes
; a fixed image gets
1x
/
2x
candidates snapped to the\nbreakpoint list so caches stay small.
\n

priority
on above-the-fold images swaps
loading=\"lazy\"
+\n
decoding=\"async\"
for
loading=\"eager\"
+
fetchpriority=\"high\"
. Use it for\nthe LCP image only.
\n

fill
positions the image absolutely inside the nearest positioned ancestor\nand defaults
sizes
to
100vw
; pair with
style={{ objectFit: \"cover\" }}
.
\n
\n
Step 5: Build-time imports and static variants
\n
Register the plugin — the main
pracht()
plugin does not include it:
\n

// vite.config.ts\nimport { prachtImage } from \"@pracht/image/vite\";\n\nexport default { plugins: [prachtImage(), pracht({ /* … */ })] };\n

\n

import hero from \"./hero.jpg?pracht\";                 // { src, width, height, blurDataURL }\nimport banner from \"./banner.jpg?pracht&pracht-static\"; // + prebuilt WebP variants\n\n<Image src={hero} alt=\"Hero\" placeholder=\"blur\" />;\n<Image src={banner} alt=\"Banner\" sizes=\"(max-width: 960px) 100vw, 960px\" />;\n

\n
\n
Dimensions come from sharp metadata with EXIF orientation applied, so a\nrotated portrait reports its display size.
\n

blurDataURL
is an 8px WebP data URI generated at build time. SVGs skip it,\nanimated GIFs blur their first frame.
\n

pracht-static
emits content-hashed WebP files at
staticWidths
, takes\nprecedence over the global loader, and is cached in Vite's
cacheDir
keyed by\nsource bytes. It requires an absolute Vite
base
; SVG and animated\nsources pass through unchanged.
\n
Root-relative
publicDir
imports keep stable public URLs and bypass the\nruntime loader.
\n
Types:
\"types\": [\"@pracht/image/client\"]
in tsconfig, or a triple-slash\nreference in any
.d.ts
.
\n
\n

@pracht/markdown
uses
?pracht&pracht-static
automatically for relative\nMarkdown images and renders them with
getImageProps()
— see
/add-content
.
\n
Step 6: Mount the optimization endpoint (Node-compatible runtimes only)
\n

// src/api/_pracht/image.ts\nimport { createImageHandler } from \"@pracht/image/node\";\n\nconst imageHandler = createImageHandler({\n  // Required in every environment, including dev. Your own env var, not a\n  // framework one — set it to the app's public origin and use the same value\n  // as nodeAdapter({ canonicalOrigin }).\n  localOrigin: process.env.PRACHT_ORIGIN,\n  // remotePatterns: [{ protocol: \"https\", hostname: \"*.example.com\", pathname: \"/uploads\" }],\n  // allowedWidths: [640, 1280],   // required when configureImage() customizes the breakpoints\n});\n\nexport const GET = imageHandler;\nexport const HEAD = imageHandler;\n

\n
That file maps to
/api/_pracht/image
, exactly what
defaultLoader
targets —\nno further configuration. The endpoint negotiates WebP via
Accept
(pass\n
formats: [\"image/avif\", \"image/webp\"]
for AVIF), never enlarges beyond the\nsource, passes SVG/GIF through, and answers\n
Cache-Control: public, max-age=14400, must-revalidate
with
Vary: Accept
.\nIt drops the query string from relative image files (
/hero.png?v=2
→\n
/hero.png
), so if the app cache-busts or signs local images with a query\nparameter, keep it with
sourceQueryParams: [\"v\"]
. It also caches results in\nmemory for no longer than
cacheControl
allows and encodes at most four at\nonce (
cache
,
maxConcurrency
); a custom
fetchImage
turns the shared cache\noff unless
cache
is set.
\n
Step 7: Verify
\n

pracht dev # set PRACHT_ORIGIN to the exact origin it prints\npracht build\npracht verify --json\n

\n
Check in the browser: the
<img>
carries
srcset
/
sizes
, the LCP image is\n
fetchpriority=\"high\"
, and no layout shift occurs on reload. Then run\n
/audit-bundles
and
/audit-seo
if image work was part of a performance pass.
\n
Rules
\n
\n
Never leave
localOrigin
unset — relative sources are resolved only against\nit, so a forged
Host
cannot turn the endpoint into an open proxy. The\nhandler answers 500 until it is configured, including in dev.
\n
Always allowlist remote hosts with
remotePatterns
; never proxy arbitrary\nURLs.
\n
When
configureImage()
customizes
deviceSizes
/
imageSizes
, pass the\nmatching
allowedWidths
— the endpoint rejects widths outside its allowlist\nby design, and skipping this silently breaks the srcset.
\n
Do not use
priority
on more than the one above-the-fold image per route.
\n

placeholder=\"blur\"
writes an inline
style
attribute: a CSP without\n
style-src-attr 'unsafe-inline'
silently drops it (and
fill
positioning),\nand
img-src
must include
data:
. See https://pracht.resynapse.dev/docs/recipes/csp.
\n
Platform loaders generate URLs that only resolve on the deployed platform —\nfall back to
passthroughLoader
behind
import.meta.env.DEV
for local\npreviews.
\n
Use an immutable one-year
cacheControl
only when every source URL is\ncontent-addressed.
\n
Never overwrite an existing
vite.config.ts
, image API route, or\n
configureImage()
call — diff first and confirm with
AskUserQuestion
.
\n
\n
$ARGUMENTS
\n","files":[{"path":"SKILL.md","sizeBytes":9194,"isText":true}],"reviewScore":null,"reviewSummary":null,"trust":{"provenance":"trusted-source-unreviewed","notice":"Community-authored content, reproduced verbatim and not vetted as instructions.
