It exists so a content-heavy app has one registry\ninstead of two readers that drift — route modules reading source through Vite,\nand sitemap/
llms.txt
/search plugins scanning the filesystem again.\n
@pracht/markdown
is the opinionated Markdown route-module compiler on top of\nit (
packages/markdown/README.md
).
\n
Nothing here is on by default: adding a collection publishes no source and\ncreates no agent surface until you add artifacts or capabilities.
\n
Step 1: Pick the shape
\n
Ask with
AskUserQuestion
when it is not obvious from the repo:
\n
\n
\n
\n
Situation
\n
Wiring
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
Markdown/MDX files that should be pages
\n

@pracht/markdown
→
defineMarkdownCollection()

\n
\n
\n
Content that feeds loaders, search, or an API — never a page
\n

@pracht/content
→
defineCollection()
with
unroutedDocuments: \"ignore\"

\n
\n
\n
An app-specific compiler (custom AST, page model, search record)
\n

defineCollection({ compile, module })

\n
\n
\n
\n
Also settle: collection root directory,
routeBase
, whether documents are\nlocalized, and whether relative images appear in the Markdown.
\n
Step 2: Install
\n

pnpm add @pracht/content\npnpm add @pracht/markdown @pracht/image # Markdown route modules\npnpm add -D sharp # only when documents embed local images\n

\n

sharp
runs at build/dev time only and never ships to a runtime bundle.
\n
Step 3: Define the collection outside the vite config
\n
Put the collection in its own module (
content.ts
) so the vite config, build\nplugins, and tests import the same object:
\n

// content.ts\nimport { llmsTxtArtifacts, rawContentArtifacts } from \"@pracht/content\";\nimport { defineMarkdownCollection } from \"@pracht/markdown\";\n\nexport const docs = defineMarkdownCollection({\n  name: \"docs\",\n  root: new URL(\"./src/routes/docs\", import.meta.url),\n  routeBase: \"/docs\",\n  // locales: { default: \"en\", supported: [\"en\", \"fr\"] },\n  // images: { placeholder: \"blur\" },      // default \"empty\" — keeps CSP unchanged\n  // snapshot: { raw: false },             // drop a representation you never read\n  artifacts: [\n    rawContentArtifacts({ path: (document) => `${document.path}.md` }),\n    llmsTxtArtifacts({\n      title: \"Product docs\",\n      origin: \"https://example.com\",\n      sections: [{ heading: \"Docs\", match: \"/docs\" }],\n    }),\n  ],\n});\n

\n
Without
sources
, the registry scans
root
recursively for
.md
/
.mdx
;\n
index
files collapse to their directory. Pass explicit\n
{ id, path, source, locale }
entries when routes must not be inferred.\nDuplicate ids, routes, sources, or artifact paths throw at definition time\nrather than letting file order pick a winner.
\n
Step 4: Register the plugins (order matters)
\n

// vite.config.ts\nimport { prachtContent } from \"@pracht/content/vite\";\nimport { prachtImage } from \"@pracht/image/vite\";\nimport { pracht } from \"@pracht/vite-plugin\";\nimport { defineConfig } from \"vite\";\nimport { docs } from \"./content\";\n\nexport default defineConfig({\n  plugins: [\n    prachtContent({ collections: [docs] }), // one call, every collection\n    prachtImage(),                          // relative Markdown images\n    pracht(),\n  ],\n});\n

\n
Register all collections through a single
prachtContent()
call — the\nplugin owns one internal build manifest and rejects a second registration.
\n
Step 5: Point routes at the documents
\n
Markdown modules are ordinary route modules (they export
Component
,
head()
,\nand the raw
markdown
string for
Accept: text/markdown
negotiation):
\n

route(\"/docs/routing\", () => import(\"./routes/docs/routing.md\"), {\n  id: \"routing\",\n  render: \"ssg\",\n});\n

\n
Sources and routes are still two readers, so
pracht build
reconciles them and\nnames every document (and generated locale alias) that no route serves — a\ndocument without a route still reaches
llms.txt
and
rawContentArtifacts()
\nwhile the page answers 404. The default policy is
\"warn\"
:
\n

prachtContent({ collections: [docs], unroutedDocuments: \"error\" });\n

\n
Use
\"error\"
for a docs site,
\"ignore\"
for a data-only collection. On a\nstatic export a dynamic SSG route only covers the concrete paths\n
getStaticPaths()
returns, and a dynamic SPA route only covers deep links when\n
staticAdapter({ fallback })
emits one.
pracht verify
cannot do this check —\nit reads the vite config as text — so run a build before believing the routing\nis complete.
\n
Step 6: Read the collection at request time
\n
Loaders, middleware, API routes, and capabilities must import the generated\nsnapshot, not the filesystem-backed authoring object:
\n

import { contentLoader } from \"@pracht/content/runtime\";\nimport docs from \"virtual:pracht/content/docs\";\n\nexport const loader = contentLoader(docs, {\n  select: (document) => ({ html: document.compiled, title: document.frontmatter.title }),\n});\n

\n
\n
The virtual module is server-only; a retained client import fails the\nbuild instead of shipping source, frontmatter, and compiled values to the\nbrowser.
\n
Every accessor is async: each document's
raw
/
body
/
compiled
lives in its\nown deferred chunk, so the first content-backed request does not parse the\nwhole collection.
iterate()
streams one document at a time;
all()
loads\neverything.
\n

contentLoader()
uses the matched, base-free
pathname
, and answers\nunmatchable pathnames (
/docs/%2e%2e
) with its not-found path instead of\nfailing the request.
\n

markdownRepresentation(document, \"raw\" | \"body\")
produces the server-only\n
markdown
export for content negotiation — it throws when
snapshot
dropped\nthe field you selected.
\n
Frontmatter and compiled values must be JSON-serializable; the build names\nthe offending value path otherwise.
\n
\n
Add types once:
\"types\": [\"@pracht/markdown/client\", \"@pracht/content/virtual\"]
\nin tsconfig (or triple-slash references in any
.d.ts
).
\n
Step 7: Artifacts and the two llms.txt files
\n

llmsTxtArtifacts()
(collection-driven, curated, can emit an
llms-full.txt
)\nis not the same as the core
llmsTxt
plugin option (app-graph driven,\nhttps://pracht.resynapse.dev/docs/agents#llmstxt). Both default to
/llms.txt
, and enabling both fails the\nbuild rather than silently overwriting — pick one, or give the collection a\ndistinct
summaryPath
. A third, unrelated file is
pracht llms
, which prints\nthe authoring guide for coding agents;
pracht llms --write
drops it in the\napp root, which is exactly the confusing filename collision to avoid in an app\nthat publishes its own index.
\n
For agents, link entries to Markdown and split the full text by section:\n
link: (document) => `${document.path}.md`
(only when those URLs exist,\ne.g. via
rawContentArtifacts()
), and
fullPath: \"/llms-guides.txt\"
on a\nsection to emit a file with just its pages (with
origin
set, each page gets\na
Source:
line with its page URL;
sort
orders a section's entries). Section files and\n
/llms-full.txt
are listed under a trailing
## Optional
heading; a section\nthat matches nothing emits no file. Duplicate or file/directory-colliding\nartifact paths throw when the helper is defined.
\n
Localization trap: a string
section.match
is compared against the\nlocale-neutral route, so
match: \"/docs\"
indexes only the default locale\nwhile
rawContentArtifacts()
publishes every translation. Pass a
match
\nfunction to index one locale deliberately.
\n
Artifact paths are preflighted: canonical ASCII segments only, no overlap with\n
publicDir
, bundle output, prerendered pages, request-time page/API paths,\nconcrete ISG paths, the
/_pracht
namespace, or Netlify's
/_headers
and\n
/_redirects
.
\n
Step 8: Deployment notes
\n
\n
Cloudflare — deferred content chunks require
\"no_bundle\": true
and an\n
ESModule
rule covering
\"**/*.js\"
. The
dist/server/wrangler.json
that\n
pracht build
generates has both; a
wrangler.jsonc
that sets its own\n
main
needs them too, and
pracht verify
warns when either is missing.
\n
Content type headers — explicit artifact
contentType
values flow into\nthe production headers manifest and are applied by the Node, Cloudflare,\nNetlify, and Vercel adapters.
\n
Bundle cost — payload chunks carry roughly two to three times the source\nbytes.
snapshot: { raw: false }
or
{ body: false }
drops a representation\nthe app never reads;
compiled
and frontmatter cannot be dropped.
\n
\n
Step 9: Optional agent surface
\n

@pracht/content/capabilities
exports
createContentPageCapability()
and\n
createContentSearchCapability()
, which return
input
/
output
/
run
fields.\nKeep the literal
defineCapability({ ... })
in the app so
pracht verify
can\naudit exposure and policy statically — see
/add-capabilities
. Both helpers\nread
document.body
and refuse a body-free snapshot when constructed.
\n
Step 10: Verify
\n

pracht build # reconciliation warnings + artifact preflight\npracht verify --json\npracht typegen # after route ids or paths change\n

\n
Then load a content route in
pracht dev
, edit a source file, and confirm the\nwatcher invalidates it (collection roots outside Vite's project root are added\nto the watcher explicitly).
\n
Rules
\n
\n
Compiled Markdown is executed as HTML, unsanitized. The generated route\nmodule renders through
dangerouslySetInnerHTML
. Only compile\nrepo-authored, reviewed content; sanitize in
parse
or
render
(e.g.\n
sanitize-html
) before compiling anything from a CMS, a database, or a\nuser.
\n
Never import a capability-facing or loader-facing collection from client\ncode — import
virtual:pracht/content/<name>
inside server code only.
\n
One
prachtContent()
call, with every collection in it.
\n
Do not enable the core
llmsTxt
option and a collection
/llms.txt
\nartifact at the same time.
\n
Adding a collection must not publish raw source implicitly — add\n
rawContentArtifacts()
only when publishing sources is intended.
\n
Never overwrite an existing
vite.config.ts
,
wrangler.jsonc
, or content\nmodule — diff first and confirm collisions with
AskUserQuestion
.
\n
\n
$ARGUMENTS
\n","files":[{"path":"SKILL.md","sizeBytes":10762,"isText":true}],"reviewScore":null,"reviewSummary":null,"trust":{"provenance":"trusted-source-unreviewed","notice":"Community-authored content, reproduced verbatim and not vetted as instructions.
